WHO BURDENED YOU WITH INCOME TAX
Income tax was introduced for the first time to the world in Britain by Pitt, the younger in the year 1799. Tax on income was accepted without enthusiasm as a temporary means to raise money for the Napoleonic wars and was allowed to lapse in 1815, after Waterloo. In the USA also, it came as a temporary measure to bolster flagging revenues during the civil war in 1861 and was repealed in 1871. In Britain it was revived (again as a temporary measure) by Sir Robert Peel in 1842, to avoid budget deficits while carrying on major tariff reforms. It was only by 1910 that Income Tax was made permanent in Germany, France, Italy, Norway and Sweden and of course in India in 1921.
