Revision is a very important part of our study. 80% of what we read now we usually tend to forget in 24 hours i.e. the first revision we have to do has to be within 24 hours. We should do the second revision within a week and likewise third revision within 1 month. Let’s assume this revision plan would roughly look like this:

Whatever you read on revising this way, it gets retained in your long-term memory and you can recapture it when you read it. Long-term memory can be understood as a long-term memory of a computer. If we ever want to see that work again, we have to save it on the computer’s hard disk first. If we do not save the work on the hard drive, it gets removed from the short-term memory of the computer as soon as the computer closes. As like saving any work in the computer’s long-term memory, a similar procedure has to be committed to in context to our brains.

CS Executive Exam Planning Strategy: Mostly our syllabus gets completed before exams & in the free time before the exam, we have to revise the whole syllabus. As such it is crucial to have a plan to revise after the completion of syllabus and before the exam. And the main concept is to quickly revise the syllabus at the time of exams. Our technique to revise our syllabus will be the same as when we did the syllabus for the first time. But the difference between then and now is that this time we revise ourselves, but at that time we used to revise whatever we used to do in class.

There, we used to do a part of a topic from a subject and revise it, and here we can read the entire topic of a subject at a time and finish it and then further revise it. A chart for revision when we are attending the coaching classes and for after the completion of the syllabus can be prepared on the computer on Excel. We are providing here a sample of both types of charts This is a weekly planning chart, for a month there will be approx. 4 weekly charts:

Here you will have to fix a mandatory time of 3 to 4 hours for revision after coming back from the coaching for studying the topic covered in the classes. Usually, it will take 2 to 3 hours to revise the topics which you have studied in the class. You have to revise within 24 hours of studying in the classroom.

CS Executive Exam Planning Strategy: Suppose you come back from the classes at 3 pm. After having food and taking rest you can start studying at 6 pm for 3 to 4 hours. Try to complete the first revision in maximum 2 hours so that the time remaining after that can be utilized for the 2nd and 3rd revision.

Please notice that 1st revision within 24 hours is a must to retain a maximum of it because 80% of whatever we have studied gets removed from our mind after 24 hours.

The Second Week’s chart will be something like this (Here the topics done in the First Week shall be Included)

Here you will have to take up topics done in the last week with your daily revision schedule. Second revision will take only one hour of your time inclusive of whatever you have studied in the last week followed by the first revision within 24 hours.

Here from 30th July onwards, you will have to revise 2 topics which you have completed on the same day, 2 topics from the weekly revision i.e. 2nd revision and 2 topics from the monthly revision schedule i.e. 3^rd revision.

But here the time taken will be very less compared to the time taken in the first instance. For e.g., if it has taken 2 Hrs. in the second revision, it will take only 20 to 30 minutes and not more than 15 to 20 minutes in the third revision. Because as previously discussed 80% of the topic studied in the first instance will be retained in long-term memory if studied systematically.

You can also use short forms to fit in the schedule. Here We have used the topic names followed by the number of classes and we have written the same remarks to make it easy to recognize the topics to be revised in the respective revision times. Suppose you have completed the whole syllabus. Now you have to prepare for the exams sitting at home and you have the whole day to study.

CS Executive Exam Planning Strategy: Normally the rank holders study for 12 to 16 hours daily during preparations for the examinations . You can choose your own studying hours. Here if you have already followed the schedule as discussed in the earlier pages, it will be easy for you to revise in lesser time. That also depends upon the availability of time between the completion of syllabus and date of examination.

You can take up 2 to 4 subjects on a daily basis to Complete the whole syllabus on time. Suppose there are 7 subjects which you have to study and 35 days are left in the examination. In this scenario, if you leave 7 days before examination to re-revise the syllabus, and consider that as one day for each subject, you will be left with 28 days to study and if you leave 3 more days for any miscellaneous work which you can consider may be wasted when you are left with 25 days.

Now you have to prepare all 7 subjects in 25 days and the chapters in each subject are given as follows:

Here you will have to study 200 Chapters in 25 days which means you have to do almost 8 chapters every day.

Here you will have to take the chapters on an average of 8 chapters per day i.e. so if there are some short chapters which can be studied in 15 to 30 minutes, you can take up-to 10 to 15 chapters in a day but if there are some chapters which can take 4 to 5 hours to complete you can take 3 or 4 of these chapters in a day.
